Magic Jewball redesign
I’d like to show you the blog I redesigned this month : Magic Jewball. Rounded V2 was the basis on which i worked and i thought it could be interesting to show you the results.
You will find some features/plugins I’d like to implement on my next rounded themes like the lightbox JS, more post metas, related posts and so on. I chose not to use the widgets plugin because Becca knew what she wanted in her sidebar and because I think widgets offer a great flexibility but we usually use it the first day and never touch it again.
I’m taking this opportunity to ask you how you use the widgets plugin to build your own sidebar. Do you use it often ? Do you think it’s easier to install a plugin in order to move your blocks than openning a php file and editing few lines of it ?
Because widgets add an important amount of work to make a theme compatible, i’m interesting in knowing your opinion about that. Thank you.
I’m interested in your opinion about the Magic Jewball redesign too, of course, so please post your comments.
Well, of course I’m biased because it’s my site
but I think it’s so beautiful and I get lots of compliments about it. The comments to my first post after the re-design were fantastic. I’m really, really happy with it so thanks again!
Thank you for your great theme! I’m very proud to use it.
I find the widgets plugin to be a great boon for those blogs I administer whose authors have no idea how to use PHP and HTML. I even use it on my own site because it’s easier for me to write a custom widget with config options and administer that, than to delve into WordPress functions and PHP code every time I want to make a change.
Personally i love it however the bottom parts seems abit bare? maybe you could add something over there overall its great since i love black colour and yes i do use widget often because i dont know a single thing about php or html maybe abit of html it might be easier for people to me since using the widget is very easy and editing the php it quite much hassle for me. and i could get erros like line bla bla its kinda annoys me..
I like widgets because it means I can quickly change my mind about the display order in my sidebar without having to edit code. Also as mentioned above, it is really necessary if I set up a Wordpress blog for someone who couldn’t possibly modify their sidebar any other way.
Toying with your them on my own site. I have not been able to get hte flickr photos to work, but otherwise I’m finding it fun to work with. Thank you for creating it and sharing.
WOW!!! This is such a cool site!! lol I am about to link you up as one of my dailies! lol I love this layout! lol If you don’t mind me asking… where’d you get that flower brush? It’s great! Well Take Care!!
Hi Jocelyn and thanks, but the pb is that i can’t remember where i found them, it’s a shame i know, i have so many brushes on my drive. Maybe you could take a look on this DevianART page there is probably one or several brushes i used here.
hhmm can someone teach me how to add own side bar without using widgets?
Thank you for providing us with such a great theme. I really liked it.
Widgets WORKS fine, but when I drag the LINKS section, the boundary box disappears. . .has anyone else had this trouble? All other sections work fine, but links ends up floating free. . .
Same here. I’ve noticed the folks (podz) at wordpress.com has fixed it - but have not seen any solution for us WP 2.1-users anywhere… And gyslain says he cant test it cause he lacks MySql 4
